Halloween Floating Ghosts
Arts & Crafts Activity

Wednesday, October 3, 2012
Aren't ghosts the essence of Halloween? I mean, when you think of Halloween, you think of those little white phantoms... boo! Ghosts are a Halloween timeless classic and I personaly cannot celebrate the holiday without creating some sort of ghost craft. The one I am presenting you today is by far, the coolest one from my collection. The end result of this activity is quite impressive. Try it with your kiddos today and let the Halloween magic invade your home!

Due to the somewhat complexity and fragility of these ghosts, I strongly suggest this activity for children of 4 years and up.

The necessary material
  • Cheesecloth
  • Easy On Spray Starch
  • Any kind of support to create the ghost's shape. I used empty snack size apple sauce containers that I piled one on top of each other. You could also use an empty toilet paper roll, empty yogurt containers, empty soft drink cans, etc.
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Black construction paper or a black marker
  • Glue (if using construction paper)

The how-to
  • With the help of your support and pipe cleaners, create your ghostly figure (as seen in the picture hereafter).
  • Cut the cheesecloth into the desired size (make sure it's big enough to drape on the figure).
  • Place the cheesecloth on top of your mold and give it the desired ghostly figure.
  • Spray the whole shape with a good amount of Easy On in order to freeze the cheesecloth.
  • Let it dry for 24 hours.
  • Decorate your ghost with two small eyes. To do so, either draw them with the black marker or use the construction paper to create some and then glue them on.
  • Lift the ghost off the support... Be careful! Fragile!
  • Voila! You have created your very own floating ghost!

Happy Halloween everyone!
