Dreamfarm Oni Knife Product Review

Sunday, October 21, 2012
I won't lie, I love cooking and I love baking. I love experimenting with food and adore my kitchen, that is where I feel most in my element. I picked up the cooking bug when I was in my late teens. I slowly got introduced to many dishes, foods, and flavours that I slowly learned to love and appreciate. I can say in all honesty that I am proud of all the different cooking techniques I have learned over the years and how much I have grown as a "cook". I have been able to gain enough confidence and creativeness to play around with recipes and put together my own as well as know-how in using cooking tools to their maximum potential. That being said, any kitchen tool that can make my life easier and more enjoyable, I'm all on it! One day, a few weeks ago, I came across a company called Dreamfarm. Their ingenuity blew me away. Their designs and product purposes puts them in a league of their own.

You know you're dealing with a skilled company when they surpass any expectations you have in regards to kitchen and household items. If a consumer's first thought about those items is how brilliant they are, then you know this company is, without a doubt, doing something right. And that is what Dreamfarm is all about all right! Turning everyday problems around by making them more relishable and effortless by means of cool gadgets. As I was scrolling through Dreamfarm's catalogue, I kept catching myself being genuinely impressed and surprised at the utility they gave to their various items. Makes you wonder how they could've possibly came up with such amazing ideas! As a matter of fact, their in-house designer Phil Howieson always ensures that functionality remains the source of their products. They always launch a product that solves a problem that no other product out there does. With all this mind, it is truly no surprise that Dreamfarm has been awarded a prestigious Red Dot Design award three times in two years. With catchy product names, such as Tapi for a fun and accommodating gadget to drink from your tap or the Vebo a silicone strainer that will allow you to boil, steam and drain all in one, has found a way to make household items fun, innovative, useful and handy at prices that are overly affordable. Since its launch in 2003 by then 22-year-old University student Alex Gransbury, Dreamfarm has quickly made its way around the world. By 2005, the first Dreamfarm product was being sold across Australia and internationally. Currently, Dreamfarm is distributed in over 30 countries, including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Israel, Denmark, Ireland, the Philippines and South Africa. Want another reason to love Dreamfarm? Founder Alex Gransbury has initiated a green policy within the company that for every single Dreamfarm product made, a tree is planted around the world. Now that my friends, is commitment!

When I contacted Dreamfarm, they were generous enough to offer me the choice of which product to review. Before I go on, I would really like to put out there the fact that, from the get-go and throughout the entire process, the people at Dreamfarm always were exceptionally courteous, friendly and helpful. Their enthusiasm was contagious! Now back to the review if I may... Being me, and being a cooking fan like I was mentioning, my choice stopped on the Oni knife. I always wanted a knife with hollow grounds on the blade. Oftentimes I get extremely frustrated at the simple fact that my food sticks to the blade. What attracted me to the Oni knife is its versatility. This knife serves three purposes: spreading, cutting and wrapping. The Unique spreader tip easily pierces food packaging and lets you scrape every last bit out of plastic containers without scratching them. Next, as mentioned briefly earlier, the hollow grounds designed on a German stainless steel blade which creates air pockets to easily cut foods without them sticking to the knife. Another clever and convenient aspect of the knife is the plastic wrap cutter built right into the handle. The Oni also comes with its own sheath made to protect your blade or to even safely bring with you on picnics of to the office. The main idea behind the conception of the Oni was to make it a all-in-one tool. A knife that does it all! And to be entirely honest with you, they succeeded with flying colours! My first encounter with Oni left me saying "WOW!". I was initially blown away by the robust feeling of the blade. It felt strong and sturdy. The knife is very light weight in itself but feels like a heavy blade when cutting through foods. I then proceeded in trying to open the packaging for my brick of cheese with the cutter. Operation successful! Finally, the Oni makes spreading such an easy job! The handle fit perfectly in my hand and didn't give me any awkward feeling. Bottom line? I am in complete and utter love with my Oni!

I strongly recommend to all of you to take a few minutes of your time to go browse Dreamfarm's website and take a peak at their various products. I challenge anyone to find something that isn't appealing or that isn't tempting to buy. Additionally, as a favour to me, go and follow this truly amazing company via Facebook or Twitter to stay in touch with a company that has lots to offer and who, I'm sure, is just getting started on impressing us with outstanding products.

The knife looks awesome. Thanks for the review. I love the cook but I am ashamed to admit that I don't own any professional grade knives. Most of mines are cheap and I seriously need an upgrade. I will have to check them out.

I have quite a few knives (most are pearing knives, though). I must say that I did not kno what those hollow points in the knife were for, oops. What I like about the Oni knife is the handle and all the thing you can use the knife for!!
Thanks for the review...on my way to check them out ;)
