Spooky Halloween Lanterns
Arts & Crafts Activity

Tuesday, September 25, 2012
October is slowly creeping in and next thing you know, Halloween will be knocking at our door. A holiday that makes everybody, from young to young at heart, cheery and giddy! I don't know about you, but I love Halloween! And having a child of my own now turns this time of year into an exciting, fun and magical time. Not just the day itself, but the whole month leading to it as well! Making Halloween arts and crafts are one of the several fun things about preparing for Halloween. They are pure cheers and laughter.

The following arts and crafts activity is simply so cute and greatly entertaining for the whole family. Have every family member make their own lantern and see who's the funniest and spookiest! You can display them on the front porch, a window sill, the fireplace mantle or a coffee table!

What you will need

  • Glass food jars (e.g. Mason jar)
  • Modge Podge
  • Paint brush
  • Scissors
  • Orange and brown tissue paper

How to put it together

  • Cut up the orange tissue paper into strips.
  • Take the Modge Podge and a paint brush and paint the tissue paper onto the jar.
  • Let it dry.
  • Cut up faces or other spooky bits from the brown tissue paper and paint it on the jar.
  • Let it dry.
  • Add a tea light or candle. If you have any trouble making your candle stand on its own, pour a bit of hot wax at the bottom of the jar and stick your candle in.
  • There you go! You have got yourself an amazing lantern!

Happy Halloween everyone!
