Convincing a little girl that she should stop talking and go to sleep is the subject of this playful picture book written by children author Andrée-Anne Gratton.

Caroline‘s mother is desperately trying to be patient answering all of her demands. This dialogue alternates between regular and italic font letters. Caroline’s thoughts on the situation is written in a wavy line, in blue and red letters, which make it easy for young readers to understand that she is only thinking those words.

Once in bed, Caroline uses many strategies to delay her mother’s departure and turning off the lights. This common family struggle will resonate with almost every parent and young child. United in life as in work, Fil and Julie, the illustrators, take pleasure in sharing a piece of paper and marry their ideas, pencil strokes and styles. Wacky characters, colorful universe filled with small pictures and fun facts characterize their work. In this book, brightly coloured cartoonlike illustrations are giving the story a particular refreshing look. I love Caroline’s bed. So will you and your child.
